What VidKeep can’t do with YouTube
Private and members-only videos
Only public videos can be saved. Anything behind a login or a paywall won’t open.
Live streams while they’re live
A stream has to finish and be published as a normal video before it can be downloaded.
Age-restricted videos
Videos gated behind an age check can’t be read without signing in, which we don’t do.
YouTube downloader — questions
Can I download YouTube videos in 1080p or 4K?
Yes, and the reason it needs explaining is that YouTube stops serving a single ready-made file above 360p. Everything higher is stored as two separate streams: one video-only, one audio-only. Tools that hand you the video stream on its own are why so many downloads end up silent. VidKeep fetches both streams and merges them with ffmpeg on our server, so what reaches you is one MP4 that plays anywhere with sound already in it. The free tier covers 30 merges a day, 10 of them above 720p — in normal use you will not reach that; the ceiling is there to stop automated scraping, not you. Pro removes it entirely. Nothing is installed and no account is created either way. For very long videos the merge takes a while — we would rather finish the job than hand you a half-written file.
How do I get just the audio as MP3?
Pick the “Audio only” option in the results. It pulls the sound track without the video.
Do I need an account or an app?
No. Everything happens in your browser — no sign-up, nothing to install.
Is there a length or size limit?
Free covers 30 downloads a day, 10 of them above 720p — more than normal use needs. Individual files are capped at 1.5 GB; Pro lifts the daily count.
Why does my downloaded file have sound now?
Because we merge the separate video and audio tracks YouTube serves. Many tools skip this and give you a silent file.
